About Liposuction
Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure aimed at contouring the body by selectively removing localised fat deposits, liposuction involves the targeted removal of excess fat using a suction technique. Surgeons employ small cannulas to suction out unwanted fat from specific areas such as the abdomen, thighs, hips, and arms.
Unlike traditional liposuction, liposuction focuses on not just fat reduction but also on reshaping and defining the contours of the body. The procedure may involve extensive reduction of fat deposits, fine-tuning of contours using smaller cannulas, or a combination of both techniques, always with attention to avoiding any unnecessary tissue trauma. Liposuction is often chosen by individuals seeking to achieve their desired body shape when diet and exercise alone prove insufficient.
It is always essential for individuals considering this procedure to have realistic expectations and to choose an appropriately qualified doctor with expertise in body reshaping surgeries. Dr Prochazka has been performing liposuction for over two decades and has successfully treated nearly a thousand patients.
As with any surgery, there is a risk of complications from liposuction surgery. The main groups of complications are: insufficient removal of excess fat tissue; contour irregularities or asymmetries; haematoma (large blood clot) or seroma (chronic fluid collection) within treated tissue; skin numbness or visible injury; thickened or pigmented scars; infection of tissues. Very large-scale liposuction – sometimes known as “megaliposuction” – can be very dangerous, leading to fluid overload, deep vein thrombosis, organ collapse and even death. Dr Prochazka never performs such procedures, preferring to stage larger cases over two or more sessions. It is important to attend all booked post-op reviews to identify and allow correct management of any complications, which can usually be treated very successfully.
